Hiring & Testing Process
Your application must be submitted before the deadline listed in the job posting. Attach all supporting documentation to your application and submit.
Written Exam & Physical Agility Testing
Qualified applicants will be notified when to report for the written examination and physical agility test. The exam will be administered at Station 2, located at 2509 N Center Street. The exam is based on the national standard of emergency medical services (EMS) and firefighting curriculum.
Upon successful completion of the written exam, applicants will be given a physical agility test. In most cases, this testing is performed immediately after the written exam and you will be notified prior to testing if the exam date or time is to be changed.
Applicants should wear attire that is comfortable for performing a rigorous physical agility exam and you can change clothing at the station prior to testing and upon completion.
Following successful completion of the written exam and physical agility test, applicants will be notified to report to the oral interview board. The oral interview consists of a series of situational and common knowledge questions. In most cases, the oral interview is conducted immediately after the physical agility testing.
You will be notified prior to the testing date if this schedule has been changed and when to report. All successful applicants will be ranked by our scoring system and either recommended for hire or not. The Fire Chief has the ultimate discretion in determining eligibility for employment and successful completion of the testing process does not guarantee employment.
Positions are filled as needed from the hiring list of qualified applicants. If you are eligible for hire but not qualified for the position available (example: you are an emergency medical technician [EMT] Basic and a Paramedic is needed), the order of the hiring list may be altered at the discretion of the Fire Chief.
Upon successful completion of the testing process, applicants will be required to complete a criminal background check, drug screening, and medical physical examination. The City of Bonham is an equal opportunity employer.
